I am not a Yankees fan.....about as far from it as can be, actually. But I bleed baseball, and I've been enamored with Babe Ruth since I was a kid. An American icon. The single most dominant player in the history of team sports. More feared, revered and loved in his time than any other athlete ever. He's been my answer to the "If you could meet any one person, from any point in history, who would it be?" question since I was 7....and if I ever do get that time machine, I know exactly where I'm pointing it.

Here come the stats!

Ruth's Career Stats:

Batting average: .342
Home runs: 714
Hits: 2,873
RBI: 2,213
OPS: 1.164
BB: 2,062
AB: 8,399

Pitching W/L record: 94-46
ERA: 2.28
CG: 107

Ruth led the AL in Home Runs 12 times. But what always astounded me is how he did it, and the time in which it was done. In 1919, Ruth led the league with 29 HR.....the next closest to him hit 10. In 1920, Ruth's first season with the Yankees, George Sisler was second in the league with 19 HR....... Ruth hit 54!

Hank Aaron, easily one of the greatest players ever, and the All-Time Home Run King (until modern medicine took over), hit 755 HR in his career, 41 more than the Babe. Aaron did that in 12,364 at bats........3,965 more than Ruth. Project Ruth's totals over the same number of at bats (which is silly, I know)....you get 1,051 HR (not to mention, 3,258 RBI).

And as sick to my stomach as he makes me, I'll even do the same with Barry Bonds. Bonds hit 762 career HR (roughly 317 of which were, um, juicy....that we know of). That was over 9,847 career at bats. Give Ruth that many ABs......you get 837 HR.

And here, have a look at the greatest (statistical) season ever, Ruth's 1921 campaign:

.378 AVG, 59 HR, 171 RBI, 177 R, 457 TB, .512 OB, .846 SLG, 145 BB

I could go on forever.....so I'll stop.

FemForce - Base Card Original Art!

Sketch Cards!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a happy and healthy 2010....and here's to an even better 2011!

This year, I resolve to be a little better at updating this blog (and should finally have my official site up and running soon)....and sharing more of my actual "work" (at least the projects I can share).

First up, some Sketch Cards! I'll be doing some work on a few upcoming trading cards sets, beginning with this month's FEMFORCE release from the fine folks at SADLITTLES.COM.

For the FEMFORCE set, I did 20 Original Sketch Cards (to be inserted randomly into packs), and also a Base Card (which is a printed card, part of the 50 card set. I did #14, Garganta.)

I'll post up the original art for the Base Card once the set is officially released, but for now, here's a peak at a few of the Sketch Cards I did for the set:

In addition to the 20 Sketch Cards I did for the packs, I also currently have 15 Artist Proof "Return Cards" available. Rather than pre-do them and offer for sale, I've decided to open them all up for commission. If anyone is interested in commissioning one (or more!) of these return cards, drop me a line!

The Dark Knight on a Dark Night

Hey folks,

Here are a couple of paintings I did for the "Dark Knight on a Dark Night" show at Hub Comics in Somerville, MA. The show celebrates the winter solstice.....and of course, the world of Batman. It begins on December 19th, and runs through January.

The paintings are framed and matted, and with both be available for sale at the show.

Baseball being one of my favorite things, I'll stay with the theme for another post. For those not in the know, April 15th is Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, and to honor him, many current players wear his #42 for their game on that day. I think it's a wonderful way to pay tribute to a truly remarkable man....and I hope the tradition continues forever.

So I was doing some scribbling while watching the game the other night, and here's what I came up with.

It's been a bit of a rough start to the year for Papi....but he picked up a few hits in the Cleveland series, and I'm expecting a breakout performance starting tonight against New York.
